Options for fetching Mails (POP3)

Leave mails on server, i. e. do not delete

If marked, mails are not deleted on remote servers after they have been loaded.

Ignore already loaded mails, i. e. do not load again

If marked, Hamster tries to recognize already loaded mails and will only load them once. It should be enabled, if above "Leave mails on server" settings is enabled, so already loaded mails are not loaded over and over again.

Note: Server has to support POP3's UIDL command to make this function work, but most servers do nowadays. If it's not supported by the server, Hamster just shows an appropriate error message and leaves that mail account untouched.

But delete such mails left on server ... days after they were loaded

Number of days, after which already loaded mails are deleted on the server, even if above "Leave mails on server" setting is activated. The given period is based on the timepoint, when the mail once was loaded by Hamster. Leaving this field empty or entering a 0 disables this function completely.

For this function to work, above "Ignore already loaded mails" setting has to be enabled as well. It is needed to recognize already loaded mails and when they were loaded.

Add "Followup-To: poster" header to mails redirected to a newsgroup

If marked, a "Followup-To: poster" header is added to mails, which are redirected to a newsgroup by a "postto" rule in file MailFilt.hst.

Notify admin, if mail is larger than

Global filter for fetching mails based on their size. If the size of a mail exceeds the given value, a notification message is sent to user "admin". A value of 0 disables this filter.

Ignore mail, if larger than

Global filter for fetching mails based on their size. If the size of a mail exceeds the given value, it is ignored (i. e. neither loaded nor deleted). A value of 0 disables this filter.

Delete mail, if larger than

Global filter for fetching mails based on their size. If the size of a mail exceeds the given value, it is "killed" (i. e. not loaded but deleted). A value of 0 disables this filter.

Number of TOP lines to load for filters/notifications

Number of lines of a mail's text to load when retrieving headers for mailfilters. These lines are included in notification messages when ignoring or killing mails.

Skip TOP loading if reported size is smaller than

Hamster normally loads the headers and a few top lines of each new mail for filtering purposes (TOP command) before the full mail is retrieved in a separate step (RETR command). But for small mails it is quite more efficient to load the full mail immediately and bypass the separate TOP loading, and this setting gives the limit in bytes, for up to which size this should be done.

Options for sending Mails (SMTP)

Max. number of attempts to send mail

If sending of a mail fails for any reason, Hamster tries it again on next transfers for the given number of times.

Delete mail if last attempt fails

If marked, an undeliverable mail is deleted after final attempt. If not marked, mail's file is just renamed to "*.err" to prevent from further attempts.

Preferred server to send mails to

Name of the preferred remote SMTP server to send mails to.
